apple-dumplings

What says Fall better than delicious baked apples? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

In honor of one of my favorite seasons and favorite fruits I came up with this hearty eat by the fireside snuggled up to your sweetie dessert. If you cheat (like I did) and buy your crust this is a fairly quick process. Especially if you have an apple corer……I seem to have lost my apple corer. That was a bit of a pain in the booty 😦

This turned out so super yummy that I had it for breakfast too! Ssshhhhh don’t tell anyone.

Ingredients

Apples:

4-6 baking apples depending on size (such as Rome, Braeburn, or Granny Smith)

½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

2tbl brown sugar

2tbl white sugar

½ tbl of butter per apple

1 package of refrigerated pie crust or your own favorite recipe

*Optional:

Raisins and nuts to taste

Sauce:

1 ¼ cup lightly packed brown sugar

1 cup water

2 tbl butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Peel and core apples. I prefer to use small apples and keep them whole, but you can use larger apples and halve them. Mix dry ingredients in small bowl.

apples-on-a-board

Sprinkle flour on cutting board and roll out dough. Cut crusts into equal amounts for your apples. Place apples in center of crust. If you have whole apples, place butter and mix in center of apples. If you halve the apples place butter and mix on top of the halved apples. Here is where you can add raisins and/or nuts if you want.

3-for-baking

Slightly wet crust at edges and wrap apples in crust. Lightly press together to seal.

Place in large greased baking dish (13 x9 should do).

In a medium sauce pan combine water, butter, and sugar. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add in vanilla.

Pour sauce over dumplings and place pan in oven for about 40 minutes. Timing will vary based on oven and size of apples so check on your apples! Apples should be tender and pastry a golden brown.
